Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Long time no see! I just candled most of my eggs - stopped in the middle of it to make this comment. It’s D14 for my silkie eggs and most of them seem to have died. All other chicken eggs seem perfectly fine. The silkie eggs have no more visible veins, no movement, and a big black blob inside of them. What could have happened? It’s only the silkie eggs from my neighbor - my own silkie eggs are perfectly normal. I’m so bummed! Attached is a photo of one of the bad eggs.

Oh no! That's so disappointing, I'm sorry! It sounds like it was something related to the flock from your description. It could be a genetic issue or health related.

I'd say it's the breeding stock. Something genetic or something else.

Unfortunately that’s my thought too. I’m just so sad about it! I’ll have to recount my live eggs and see how many I have left.
Good news, though - the local feed store said I can sell chicks and ducklings there!

So candled my d10 Icelandic’s / day 8 silkies (since I had the bator open) and had 2 quitters (one looked super fresh, the other had a thick nasty blood ring) from the Icelandic’s, and one questionable silkie. That leaves me with 4 Icelandic eggs and 7 silkies. Not sure why those 2 died, they were alive and bouncing the last time i candled on day 7. :( oh well. Still plenty of others and I didn’t need all 14... 🤷🏼‍♀️
