Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

They were DIS. Looked like fluid in there. I didn’t go any further. I added water during lock down as the humidity had started to drop. It had also gotten to high at one time. View attachment 2057773View attachment 2057774

So sorry! The fluid may actually mean that they quit earlier than you think. Too high of humidity during early incubation seems to create a sticky substance around the chick. Too high of humidity AFTER lockdown would have fluid built up inside the air cell from condensation creating droplets. A chick passing and starting breakdown (sorry can't think of a better way to describe it) seems to leave more fluid around it. Possibly quitting around day 17-19. That's my guess for the watery ones.

I think the word you're looking for is decomposing.

I am setting eggs today, will this still count as a March hatchalong? (I’m doing the EHAL). I have decided to weigh my eggs because olive eggers are too dark to see through except their air cells. So I figured I’ll weigh them instead.

April hatch-a-long or since you're setting them today it's definitely Easter hatch-a-long!

I wanted to show you my box divider for my chicks, it is a mini lace dressing shield like old time ladies used to dress behind, (what are those called?) made of wood and lace, you can only see the lace in this photo, the chick is looking at the other chicks that are only a day old on the other side, when they get their sea legs I will combine them.

This chick is about 3-4 days old I thought was a boy but has some good wings on it, so hopeful.

Below is my blue andelusian, I put up her pic again because her color is hard to capture. the pic below is close, but she is still more blue.

below is the olive egger chick hatched out of legbar egg, she is the one with the funny belly button. She is a good color, I hope she keeps it. But more important, that she survives the belly button thing!

I am going to name her "Valerie" it means strength, and health. Names matter.

Ok, update on the situation under the broody. I lifted her and her toe was in the hole and I think it nicked the membrane as I see blood. I could probably apply pressure with a q tip to try and stop the bleeding. The chick is still alive. View attachment 2057951

Oh no! That's a big hole. :( Definitely don't give it back to the broody and I would watch that she doesn't start pecking at other eggs, I don't think this could be done but stepping on it. What day is it on?
