To anyone who has had a mean roo

When I was younger my step-dad got some chickens and their was a rooster that hated my sister. Everytime we'd go out to play here he'd come flapping and screaming scared her to death. Don't know if the red hair had anything to do with it or not(she's the only with red hair and the only one it didn't like. Also my father-in-law and I have light brahmas and his roo pecked my daughter in the middle of her forehead and bruised twice now. One of mine has pecked me and he is getting traded but the other 2 are sweet.

Ihave a RIRroo that is getting really mean, I just don't have the stomach to kill him. He runs my pitt bull into the house ever time she gets out of the house. He has also flogged my SIL a couple times. I guess I"m the only one that he wont catch, but i'm the only one that goes in the run with something in my hand and he knows i will knock him senseless if he tries it.he chases my GGD down the drive and her on her bicycle.

I have had 2 mean roos in my lifetime. I kept one till it died of old age. I kept the other one till my present roo got tired of being picked on and killed him thru wire. I have vowed in the future the moment any roo of mine attacks a person it will be culled. I have shed too much blood over mean roosters.

I have a bantam roo, who I call "Tyson". "Lovingly" named after Mike Tyson, the boxer. (yea right) Well my roo begins the "boxer's dance" at the entrance of the pen. As I am opening the gate, I see him do the "chicken shuffle" by moving his feet back and forth. He is preparing for my entrance. Once I'm in the pen, he immediately runs up to my feet and "dances" around me. As I walk to the feeding area, he continues to dance around my feet and between my feet. His motions are that of a boxer who is in the ring with his opponent. Once I make it to the feeding trays, he begins pecking my toes and feet. He pecks a few times, then stops, then does the chicken shuffle and goes back for more. This is done the entire time I am in the pen. I brush him away with my feet but he continues to come back for more. I think that he thinks I'm his sparring partner. NOT !!!!!!!!!! As I am bent down trying to put the feed in the tray, he flies on my shoulders and pecks my head and ear. Sounds more and more like Mike Tyson biting off Evander Holyfield's ear huh? Yea, I know. He bites me and does everything that he can to help him get into my stew pot. He was very close tonight to getting in the pot but I had other chores to do. I will try to video tape his dance and shuffle and post it. I'll let you all know how good the chicken stew turned out to be.

I would love to see that.

It sounds like he is treating you exactly like he would treat one of his hens. Not like he is trying to be mean. That is exactly what my roo does to the hens.

Most my roos are great. Had a few real meanies though. Had one white leghorn roo never learn his lesson. As soon as he'd see you, he'd come flog your boots, feet, arms, anything it could reach. Knocked him out on accident once when he came after me and I swung the treat bowl and hit him square on the head. What did he do next? Come back and try to get me again!!! He turned into soup alright.

I've gotten bruises from some roos but most learn I'm head roo really fast. I'd have to say 95% of my roos are sweethearts though.
