To insulate or not to insulate...

WOW- that's a lot of chickens (from the stand-point of a newbie). I will have only 4. I don't have room for more as my coop is pretty small. But their free-ranging area will be very substantial. I think their body heat will help keep them warm during cold spells. The man I bought my Americaunas from said he does NOT insulate or provide a light, and he actually lives 2000 feet higher than I do, so I'm totally on the fence now. His theory is that if the girls can't make it through a Colorado winter...well, survival of the fittest, and all. With that being said, I'm a pesce-ovo vegetarian but don't eat anything with a face :) and therefore, I do care quite a bit about the quality of life of all animals. And these girls are pets, too, and I know I could never leave my golden retriever out all night with no protection. I walked outside this morning and it was awfully chilly (about 29 degrees). I would totally feel bad if the girls didn't have a light or insulation to help them during the cold spells. Maybe just a light will work during the hardest winter months here in the mts. Thanks for your input! I do appreciate it.
