To paint or not to paint- that is the question?

I'd power wash it quick and then see what it looks like in the Spring.

Once one starts to "paint" or "seal" it has to be renewed... Adding work down the line not the best choice IMHO.

Agree with pressure washing and painting. If the wood is in good condition, no need to pressure wash before sealing. I've been spraying clients fencing, as well as mine every spring for many years and it would be impossible to pressure wash 100's of yards of fencing. Some of the pine boards are over 20yrs old and still solid.

Unavoidable if you want the natural rustic look, want it to last, and it's pine. His run would take him 15 minutes a yr. Not too bad in my book.

I agree with the "rustic" look - brown works, or sealing the wood. -just some good ol' seal on the wood (is it cedar?) would do just fine, IMO.

Pressure wash will reveal rot and tell you how best to proceed.

You must love pressure washing stuff, lol.
Too easy to tell if wood is rotten without PW. Plus it takes the patina off.

I happen to like the rustic look more than the fancy mansion look myself.

I like the idea of a sealant to preserve the wood.
