Hey guys I am going to set some eggs this weekend for the first time ever. I made the Miss Prissy chic o bator. I am excited. I cant find anywhere info on if I should remove the egg carton on day 18 or just leave it in. I will be tilting the whole bator so the eggs will be in an eggs flat. I didnt know if they could get out if you leave them in the flat. I have seen pics only of them hatching on a flat surface. What do you think?

I hatch in cartons:

I can't speak to the bator being tipped; I have an autoturner.

I also hatch in cartons, it keeps the floor of the bator a little cleaner. They climb out just fine. One problem I am having though is figuring out which end the air sac is in in those super dark Marans eggs that are impossible to candle. They are practically round eggs. Argh, but a nice problem to have. Henz

Edited to add: I forgot, I know there are several threads on hatching in egg cartons, that is how I found out about it.

Cool pic Wynette how are yours in carton if you have auto turner?

I use a auto tuner for the first 18 days then hatch in the cartons.
I have a great hatch going right now, on my eggs 30 of 36 have hatched.

Yep, as okiehen indicates, leave them in turner 1st 18 days, then remove turner.

You can hatch them on their sides if you're unsure of which end the air cell is in, worldwidechick; Marans eggs are actually supposed to be quite round, so this is a good thing! I use an ancient slide projector to candle through the dark eggs - it's SUPER bright and I can most always see inside the gorgeous Marans eggs.
