midwife mamaI am making an informed decision for my chickens, based on all available information, statistics, risks, and anecdotes as well, so YES I am very much interested in hear both sides. [i :
However,[/i] for this particlar thread I asked to hear specifically from those who have chosen not to vaccinate in the past so that 1) I may understand reasons for not vaccinating that I had not considered and 2) so that I could learn about potential problems people encountered after not vaccinating.
Perhaps it is the title of the thread, "To those who do/did NOT vaccinate" that is attracting both sides.
ETA: I received unvaccinated birds from a friend and they ended up with Mareks.
Interesting discussion. I choose not to vaccinate my chickens. I eat them and use their eggs and just don't want any 'unnecessary ingredients' included. Maybe I've been lucky. I usually have between 50 and 80 birds and have had them a long time without any problems with illness you can vaccinate for. I am very careful about adding birds and to my flock. They get isolated and must be healthy and clean before adding. If I went to shows and exposed my birds I might think differently, but for now it works not to vaccinate.
