TOAD EGGS!!

I would like to buy a dozen toad eggs. I am not NPIP. I have raised Cornish cross meat birds in the past, but I would prefer to raise toads as a sustainable source of meat birds. I would not be butchering any birds for the first year except for extra roosters. I would want to keep two of the best roosters and all of the pullets that hatch to keep the flock going. I am set up to both free range or raise chickens in pens. I might try some of each to see which ones do best. My free range birds always spend the nights inside coops. I am in central Oklahoma, and I am hoping the toads will do well in our cold winters and hot, humid summers.

Thanks..

I hopefully will get everyone eggs barring unforeseen circumstances like a coon or weasel. (heaven forbid)!!

Which is why I want them spread out.

I have a couple more local people I am getting eggs too, and then the mailing starts.

Noooooo! The coons and weasels will just have to find their meal somewhere else!

How often do toad hens lay eggs? Every day? Every other day?

The Mother Toad "Bertha" lays a huge egg everyday, the others have just started laying and I am not sure they are all laying, I get one or two eggs a day. I see a couple sitting in the nest but no eggs.

I assume they are just practicing. I only have 4 hens. I have 5 roosters. I am afraid to process the roosters and lose the gene pool at this time by a coon or weasel or coyote or eagle or whatever..

It is kind of sad to work on these birds for 5 years and only have 4 hens. I have hopes for next year though, I have12 tadpoles right now.

I have never had them this early in the year, they should lay in August at the latest.

Do you have an incubator? You might want to hatch some of your eggs rather than selling them all. I'm not trying to talk you out of selling eggs. I would really like to buy some of your eggs myself. But if you take care of increasing your own flock first, you will have plenty of eggs to sell later.
Maybe you could hold back your eggs for a week or two to hatch out for yourself before you ship eggs to the rest of us? You have put a of of work and time into developing your toads, so you should be the first person to have a nice big flock of them.

I have a dozen or two in the incubators now, I have LOTS of incubators, I have about a dozen chicks too. I should be ok. I hope.

That's great! I'm glad that you are going to have a nice big flock.
