Today is day 16 - patiently waiting for my quail to hatch.

In that video of the buttons at 3 weeks they look like they are fully feathered and pecking just like coturnix.
Pretty cool.

Lol! they are so cute. I cant wat to see there "popcorn" stage. I opened all my eggs and saw that most where half developed. I am still trying to figure out what did it.

Their heads weren't feathered much at all at the time of that vid and they had a strip down their breasts. Now they are just missing some feathers down the sides of their heads. They grow mohawks for a few days.

A strip of head feathers comes in first.

Hopefully my next hatch goes well. I want to start my own breeding stock. The coop we where planning to build has not been built yet so I am going to use the wood and build a huge quail pen.

So far I've had 4 hatch and I think they are all going to be silver!! I'm surprised because I thought the brown one was laying but it must be the silver and the male is a blue breasted. Ought to be gorgeous chicks!! I also had a wonderful surprise today - came home to 6 newly-layed eggs instead of the usual 3!

Congrats. I just put my porcelain d'uccle eggs in the bator. Next week my button quail eggs come in so we will see what happens from there.

Holy moly!

What in the heck would they eat normally can they eat regular chicken food?

Can they be put in a hen house when full grown? How big do they get?

I read that they can eat turkey or gamebird food and they get to be about 4" full grown. I am building there brooder but I am missing some materials.

I feed mine chicken starter (24% protein), parakeet/canary seed, plus veggie and green treats. They are so fun! They don't get very big; maybe the size of a parakeet if not smaller. And beware - they are very addictive!! Here's a pic of just some of mine:

My camera takes crappy pics - they actually have beautiful colors. Once they lay eggs you just want to hatch more MORE MORE!!!
