Today is day 18!!! I had a heartattack this AM

I will assist too after they zip if needed but won't help them zip as I've heard of people doing. I just don't feel I'm smart enough to know when their ready for that. I don't hatch much maybe a couple of times a year but have been using dry hatch for about 3 years now and have noticed about a 25% increase in my hatch rate. I shoot for the 30% range for the first eighteen days also but only raise to 55-65 for lock down and have found that to be plenty with the raise you get once they start hatching. I'm curious does the higher humidity for lock down help keep the humidity up when you remove chicks? I just leave them all in the bator till the hatch finishes and the only problem I've had with shrink wrapping is when something physically blocks them from getting out of the shell.I'm not saying that removing chicks is something you shouldn't do I just never have and it works for me I even put the ones I've helped out back in the bator till the end of the hatch and never lost one.

thank you, I fixed it all up lastnight its at 99.5-100 and its also humidity is at 55-60% but I have to leave the vent plugs in or it drops to 40%-50% my bator has other holes in the top as well though is that Ok???? I saw a little pip hole lastnight and I lost sleep over it LOL today is day 19 for me!!! I got a pic too of the pip hole....is that a pip hole???????

Looks like a pip in the greenish egg (3rd egg back). Looks a little further toward the middle of the egg than I would expect, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

What kind of chicks? I thought day 19 was a bit early, but you might have perfect conditions! Any progress? Best of luck!

Once those chicks start hatching (the humidity should rise when they start) you want to open those vents so the chicks have a good supply of fresh air.

I have helped from pip to end. I have a black hen as a matter of fact that was malepositioned after almost 24 hours of nothing I widened the pip to get a better idea of what was going on. As I widened it above the beak I was met with little toes. Her foot came over her head and was on her beak...lol I wished I had taken a pic. But she couldn't move an she definitely couldn't push against the shell to get out. So I started the assisted hatch. Little at a time and then put her back in to rest and give her a chance to finish. I had zipped over half before she was able to lower that foot. Once she was able to get herself in position, she finished herself and pushed herself out. She wouldn't have been able to get out w/o help. I'm 99% sure of that. She's happy and healthy and the choice hen of my NN roo...lol As for the humidity, yes, I feel it helps keep it up in the safe range when I remove chicks or if I need to assist. I've only fully assisted twice. I will but I have to be pretty sure that it's warranted before I will assist.

Most of my last hatch pipped late on day 19 and hatched on day 20. My hatch was fully done by early hours on day 21.

the Greenish one is the one I don't think anything is in...lol that was a Amerciana/Frizzle
all the others are Rhode Island Reds and the Roo is a Frizzle....
I was talking about the second egg with the little tiny hole in it on the side.....lol
:)

@AmyLynn2374 sweet story, glad it had a nice outcome. And after I posted that comment about day 19 being early, I though how stupid am I? Lol I think we get so many more posts about ones being late (when people start to panic) that I forgot 19 is pretty normal for pipping.

@Widderpincess12 I didn't notice the little hole on the second egg, it just kinda looks like a freckle lol. But I hope its a pip for you!

*sigh* day 22 and nothing :( but my friend had another 3 eggs of mine and 1 hatched!!!! lol they were due Thur and is hatched Sunday........But as for my 9 eggs, I have nothing yet...
I also went to tractor supply lastnight and bought a few to add to my brooder because I didn't want this one to be the only one...I have no idea what kind of breed they are, had a pic and it was assorted pullets, but their feather are almost coming in a little they seems to be black with white specks...hoping something happens tonight or tomorrow...I candled lastnight and didn't see anything, just big air cells and no movement but couldn't see much as it looks like the chicks were full grown didn't see many veins either

chick pictured is 1/2 frizzle and 1/2 rhode island red....its my only chick that has hatched
