It was 19 degrees at night and 38 degrees during the day. 5 eggs from 14 hens. Not too good.

-30 last night and no eggs this morning by 8:40am. I think I'll check later. I guess my girls are messing up the theory...

Unless your girls always lay really early, I don't think 8:40 AM is exactly a "no eggs today" time.

If necessary the theory can contain additional valid constraints. Like if it is so cold their blood turns to ice, I don't think we should expect eggs

Same low last night as the night before. A couple of degrees colder for the high today. 8 eggs!

Zorra took yesterday off but that girl apparently can't be kept down, she laid again today. As has been the pattern, the BAs and EEs are pulling the load, 4 of the 8 came from those 4 girls. The other eight girls only managed one egg for every two birds. Though, to be fair both Faverolles laid today which is pretty amazing since they've each gone to 1 egg every 5 to 7 days. And neither Cubalaya laid.

Ok, here's my rundown as of late from our 6 hens (all about 10 months old):

1/13 - 5 eggs, 25F
1/14 - 4 eggs, 21F
1/15 - 3 eggs, 27F
1/16 - 5 eggs, 33F
1/17 - 4 eggs, 32F
1/18 - 4 eggs, 39F
1/19 - 3 eggs, 45F
1/20 - 5 eggs, 21F
1/21 - 3 eggs, 11F
1/22 - 4 eggs, 11F

Many of these nights were down into single digits or low teens, and some of the daytime temps had wind chills of -10 to -20F, but the girls haven't seemed to care at all. I'm amazed at how many eggs we've still been getting, and I only add about an hour and a half of extra LED solar light in the a.m., nothing in the evening, so they are only getting about 12 hours of daylight at the most. Proud of my girls!

wow! I've been gone a week and haven't kept up. Yesterday got 14/17 at 37 degrees. Funny our Houdan pullet didn't lay until she was 8 months old and began laying in November, daily, for a little over a week. Then we had a cold (for here) snap and she quit laying again. I kept checking her to make sure no internal laying or egg bound and she was healthy. So we are out of town for the week and my folks came to be with the kids and she started laying again. Getting daily eggs and they are twice the size of the ones she was laying in early December.

Okay, here is fuel for your theory. Yesterday was almost 60 and we only got 9/17. Add that to your chart!

We are supposed to cool down today to a high of 47 so we'll see what this afternoon's production is.

-27 last night and into this AM. Coop was about 5 degrees with the brooder lamp on to take the nip out. 2 eggs so far right away this AM out of 4 laying. (5 layers still on their winter holiday). I think I added a layer or two though these last 4 days with the lamp on.

I can pull the lamp tomorrow as we get a reprieve from old man winter's death grip on us this weekend. We'll see how it continues from there.

Cold and Cold. But yes there should be an icicle emoticon at least seasonally. Good idea!

I'm surprised and heartened by the girls and my roos doing so well.
