Today's temperature = # of eggs.

I threw some cayenne in just for good measure!
Today's high was expected to be 26*F but it felt way chillier than that with the wind blowing. 8 eggs! Highest count in months!

With 44 hens, I can't keep track like you do; I think that's great!
Yeah, I think it'd get a little crazy to track more than 15 without a little hen cam on each nest...

It also helps me that they all lay a different color at the moment.

Zoe is my only white egg layer,
Inara's my only brown egg layer at the moment... Nandi is my other SLW, so... unless she lays a drastically different shade of brown, the only way I will be able to tell them apart in the beginning is by size until I get the hang of her cycle.
Kaylee lays L olive when she lays.
Yolanda lays L blue.
Bridget lays XL matte green/grey.

Saffron's an EE, so she could lay anything... she's my last surprise... looking forward to seeing her first. Days are getting longer, and warmer days are ahead... so... soon.

A hen cam...can't tell you how many times the Hubs and I have talked about that for all of our animals-chickens, hogs and cattle! LOL I would love to put one on one of our pastured hogs!

Twinzmom--That is awesome! Big Lots and the Dollar stores all have the bottles for $1 so it's not really that much of an added expense. I always try to grow my own cayenne peppers, but usually it's not enough.

Yesterday I got 15 eggs with a 41d high and today I got 20 eggs with a 45d high. Two days ago I got 23 eggs with a 51d high. Not so sure about this theory about colder weather, more eggs...

I'm very pleased with my egg count for January. We had pretty frigid temps here in Central Virginia. I have 5 hens. We had 31 days and the potential to collect 155 eggs. My coop is not heated or insulated, nor is there light out there to add to normal winter daylight hours. I actually collected 147 eggs. I'm very happy! And this is my first winter with chickens. My egg customer's are happy too. I've not had to turn any away due to lack of eggs on hand. And here's a BIG

:thumbsup for my happy hens!

South Florida, USA-Two White Rocks and One Golden Comet-temp high 68, low 44

Good morning everyone! Had to put my two cents in this morning! I'm new at the chicken stuff only had my chicken a little over a week! I have a set of white bantams, got my first egg from her yesterday, also have a set of spotted Spangler bantams with another small bantam hen in with this set, not sure which one of these hens is laying but have gotten 2 eggs in last three days... The have 9 hens and rooster in another coop. They haven't strarted laying yet, but we think it's due to not having their coop completely finished! Have 2 buff orpingtons 3 wyndottes, and 1 white leghorn, 3 black with green feathers that I'm not sure what they are??? Anyone know? Anyway I am enjoying every minute of this! We live in south Mississippi, any one on here from my area?
