Today's temperature = # of eggs.

Low last night was 31 and the day time high was 60. I got five eggs from fourteen Orphingtons.

The low here last night was 44 and the high was 62. nine eggs from fourteen hens.

9+5=14

Sounds to me like your girls are only laying every other day for you...even in your mild temperatures.

9 lay one day, then they take the next day off. On their day off, the other 5 lay, and then they take a day off... Though, you may have a couple girls in there on a 1 on/ two off cycle.

Not to worry, we seem to have crossed the magical 10 hour day threshold 8-10 days ago (which is how long it takes from ovary to vent to make an egg) that induces hens to start firing up that egg conveyer of theirs. Everyone should see an uptick in their numbers between pullets that are starting, molts ending, and the days getting longer.

Temperature really has very little to do with it down here in the majority of the lower 48.

Ahh... Enjoying nice, warm, high 80 degree weather in Texas. 2 eggs, 3 hens.
But, knowing the weather, it will probably turn into a summer of critical drought and triple digit temperatures.

It's been mid-20's here and I have been getting one egg every morning-yes, they are only laying in thee wee morning hours-for the last three days. But I have four hens, and the Buffs and Doms are supposed to be winter layers.

My TSP girls from last easter are red sex links and constant layers. Its been down to singles and low teens last week and all the sudden full bore production. 3 hens 3 eggs. they dropped to 2 a day for a week or so but here we go again.. these girls love to lay. being an urban chicken farmer, i wish i could have 3 more to pay for the feed and get back to even quicker

Our temps are staying @ the 30ies. One of these days our snow will start to melt. I have 60 hens some are molting. I think my young hens are laying now. I got 40 eggs yesterday, that is up from my 30 throughout the winter.

*Zoe laid fairly late yesterday for a morning after a day off... but 8 days before was the start of a big temperature swing starting at 74° and ending up at 4°. She has never skipped 2 days in a row... so, she should lay first thing tomorrow.

Temp dropped yesterday, windy and coldish 45 degree hi - 12/17 eggs.

8 eggs one day, the temp dropped and they increased by 50%

EE & BA reliable as ever!

Mine too. The EEs have averaged 5+ per week since they started laying. The smaller BA 4.25 per week and the larger 5.8. The Partridge Chanteclers 3.8, Anconas only 3.5 and let's just say the Favs and Cubalayas (cute as they are) are lucky we don't have "A hundred ways to cook a non laying hen", barely over 2 per week.

Yesterday I got 15 eggs with a 41d high and today I got 20 eggs with a 45d high. Two days ago I got 23 eggs with a 51d high. Not so sure about this theory about colder weather, more eggs...

You have to explain the theory to some of them, chickens aren't all that smart

3 black with green feathers that I'm not sure what they are??? Anyone know?

Are the feathers green only in the sunlight? Maybe Black Australorp or Jersey Giant. Black in the shade but beautifully iridescent green in the sun.

Temperature really has very little to do with it down here in the majority of the lower 48.

Shhhh! You aren't helping with my efforts to win the Pulitzer Prize for chicken egg laying factors.

It's probably a good thing you don't have that book I referenced above or Kaylee might be in trouble
