My girls turn 5wks old next week. It's about time they take things seriously. I left their door open, and let them be (they're expectedly skittish). I will check on them from living room to make sure they're safe. I'm not working on coop at all today so they're relaxed.

that particular coyote learned very quickly when my husband left for work and when I would come outside, he would only come during these times, took multiple birds, husband took a month and a half to get a good shot with a night scope after he faked leaving, just grazed it but it never returned, I like to think it died a horrible death

I know the feeling. A while ago (in broad daylight), I heard a strange barking going on outside. Dogs are like your children. And just as much is true when a child cries, a dog's bark can tell you if something is wrong. This was not a normal dog bark (not mine at least). I run outside and don't see my dogs right away. What I do see though, two coyotes about 15 yard (maybe less) from my fence line. Turns out these two medium / smaller coyotes were staring down my 20lb Terrier mix (fast and crazy agile), and my 65lb Pit-mix (crazy fast and PURE muscle). Both are incredible family dogs, as they let my 2yr old treat them like they're play toys to her...lol However, put a defensive and determined dog (or two even) up against a wall, in this case two coyotes...won't end well for the coyotes. They only barked and stared, but kept their distance...they knew better.

I hate coyotes, they will kill your dogs, I'm sure you know that though

Yup. I don't even hate them if I'm being honest. I hate the idea they'll kill my dogs (at least try to). Were they not to venture so close to my yard, I would let it pass. However, I've seen too many cruises in broad daylight, not too far from my fence...

Hate them, they will lure your dogs away and ambush them, I do like hearing the howl at night, but they are too smart, if you keep any livestock you will find out, they are bold, they will saunter through your yard, feed them once and they will keep coming, keep your gun ready, seems that late summer to early fall is when they come around.
