Toe problems in a 7 week old chick

No change. We lost power (no lights, no heat, no phone) in the big storm. I have tons more gray hair than I started with, but the babies seem just fine. Of course, my big roo, Travis, decided he had no idea whose idea it was to put that cold, white stuff on the ground and he had no intention of walking across it.

I'm beginning to wonder if my baby had her toes broken. Only the toes on one foot appear to be affected. She was fine when she hatched and there are no other problems with any of the other 5. I'll post pictures as soon as I get batteries for my camera. (It decided to die over the weekend, too.)

The toes don't seem to be slowing her down any. She tries to perch, even though her balance is a bit off and she's growing. Still no tail feathers, though. Peanut is a EE-mix.

My chickens won't go out in the snow either. They took one look at it and gave me the "no way" look.

I've decided I'm going to make shoes for mine. I figure it doesn't hurt to try them.

That's the same as mine. His balance is off and no tail feathers either.

What are you going to do with your baby if his toes don't correct themselves? I figure Peanut has already overcome so much, that I'm going to give her the best life possible, no matter what. That and the fact that she's spoiled rotten.

I wanted an EE baby but none of my green eggs hatched. She hatched out of a brown speckled egg. She has green legs and looks like she'll end up being barred. I'm hoping she's a girl, anyway, because if she's actually a he, my DH may have something to say about her long-term future.

Here's hoping for straight toes in 2010.

Well, taping didn't work. The toes still rolled to the outside.

He gets along fine, just has trouble roosting because of balance. With all his trouble hatching and tearing himself open, and he still made it, I feel he deserves the chance. So I will keep him unless his quality of life deteriorates. So I'm just taking it day by day. I'm hoping that he'll get along fine and I can integrate him with the others into my main flock. We'll just have to see.

I was wondering how your chicken made out with the crooked toe. I have one that is 6weeks older and wondering if she will be ok with it that way.
