Tolbunt Polish

Pics
When I first began with Polish, it of course was from a hatchery, though sadly even though I purchased every color a hatchery could offer, I only ended up with a few WCB's and ONE silver laced. Hatchery vigor I tell you.

I'll be straight up and honest, I'll actually be using some WCB's to work on my Tolbunts with, and yes, I am aware of how much that may mess up the coloring, but honestly, I'm doing it mostly for the type. The WCB's have the biggest, most full crests, the best bodies (also to add, an amazing amount of meat on the bone) and, well, the best bodies, breast, back, tail, and all. So although it will take me generations to work with, it is worth it to me. My own personal project. I've yet to find many Silver Laced as good as some of my WCB's, really. Most out there have small and/or stringy crests, small and thin bodies, too erect of tails, weak health, etc.

Every time I go back to this page (err, the previous page) I take a moment to sit there and drool at that image I posted earlier of those practically perfect young Tolbunts from Europe. . . aaahh. . .

On that note... has anyone considered importing more Tolbunt stock?

A collaborative effort would make it much, much less expensive.

Hatched our first TWO Tolbunt babies today. Will get some good pics of them later for your eye candy!

I'm still waiting to see some white eggs in the nesting boxes over here. . .

I am soooo loving the band aid for spraddle leg trick. I've had a couple hatch with it lately. Went to pull these two tolbunts out of the bator and one was laying on his back with the legs going in either direction. Slit a bandaid and put it on him right away and now the little bugger is running around the brooder with everyone else. Had the same thing happen with a Lav silkie last month. They are up and hobbling in a few hours, and the next day they are running around fine. I pull it off at day 3 or 4 and haven't had any issues after that.

Sad news. High, strong winds last night in Md. Something went wrong at the stable, either blowing hay or wood shavings, or a downed light. No idea. Stable burned to the ground. Thankful I didn't lose any horses. But my chickens suffered ... all modern game birds gone, their coop in ashes. Very worst ... my original flock of eight tolbunt hens and their roo, dead. Fire so hot, not a bone or anything remains.

I saw this on FB this morning Gretchen - OMG, you must be devastated, to say the absolute LEAST!!! Thank goodness no one was hurt, but is there ANY CHANCE any of your chickens may have escaped????
