I just saw it move a little piece of the shell that’s still attached so as of right now it’s still alive.

thank goodness my chicken friends here don’t really sleep! Ok so I’ll leave it be and see what happens. The other egg has not popped yet that I can see. I think it may have made a tiny bit of progress in the past 2 hours but not sure. I cannot tell if it actually broke through the membrane or not to get air. Here is a picture View attachment 2020405
Ok Ill just keep checking on it. There is a little bigger piece of shell on the floor of the bator now so I think its still alive and trying. I've learned so much just from this one little egg. I thought it would drown for sure if it pipped from the skinny side. Thanks for all your help and supportLooks like a good pip to me! The baby will get a lot of oxygen from its blood vessel network at this point still, I wouldn't think it will have an issue getting through that membrane if it hasn't already. Often they don't peep much until later on so I wouldn't worry about that this early on (a lot of my little ones don't peep very often even later on). Right now it's probably working on finishing up absorbing the yolk, and learning to use its lungs to breath. The blood vessels are usually still very large this early on but closer to hatching they'll start to recede and the baby will rely more and more on its lungs for oxygen.
Edit: Just saw it peeped for you, yay!![]()
Thank you for the words of encouragement. Thank goodness I have today off of work so I can watch it all day. Also, I have been trying for polish for so long. Last year I had 7 and they all turned out to either die as day olds (shipped) or they were cockerels. Ive made tentative arrangements to pick up maybe some polish from a breeder in CT this weekend on my way back from NY to keep my hopefully two little silkies company. It all depends what hatches out and what she wants to keep soToday is lockdown on my precious three little buff laced polish bantams. They are on a frizzle split and having one is all my oldest daughter has talked about having for over a year so I am praying one darling little girl egg hatches frizzle...may as well play the lottery with those odds, I think!Desperately hoping, though that all goes well. It's been a few years since I've hatched polish, and I do miss those crests. Hope everyone has a great day! BTW, @Merrymouse I have had a couple of silkies and polish (WHAT IS IT WITH THOSE DOMED SKULLS?!) pip on the skinny end and they have been fine. Good luck!!
