Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Quail babies like to die for no apparent reason. :( They also like to drown themselves and fall asleep away from the heat. I gave up on raising the quail chicks because every time I thought I had it figured out, they figured out a way to die. I sure hope you have a better time of it than I did.
Oh! No—they aren’t actual quail. They are Quail Brabançonne chickens. Little bits of chocolatey fluff

I’m home now and the chick is still in the same place. I still see veining on the membrane so I applied more coconut oil and put it back. Definitely can’t see the beak still but I did locate a foot.

If you see a foot, that little baby is probably upsidedown which is what I was concerned about. That's why you didn't see a pip.

@LynnaePB and @CluckNDoodle ok, thank you. As long as its chirping and getting air it should be good. I can wait. I just needed the reassurance, I would hate to miss the window of opportunity to help if I could. Do you think I should be worried about my other egg? Do eggs get really still and quiet before hatch maybe??? wishful thinking. Again I truly appreciate the reassurance :hugs

Being still and quiet isn't necessarily a sign that the chick isn't going to hatch but it's really hard to say when there are only two eggs. I usually have at least a few eggs to gauge what is "late" and I don't fiddle with anything until all activity has stopped for a period of time.

Anyone know if I can use this on the membrane instead of coconut oil? The coconut oil seems to be drying up too quickly. View attachment 2020942View attachment 2020943

Yes, Triple Antibiotic Ointment is safe as long as there isn't any pain reliever in it.

Ok so...I definitely saw an eye. And I definitely see a foot...none of these malpositions really make sense based on what I’m seeing. Which one seems most likely? Any chance it’s none of these at all? View attachment 2020963

From what I've seen this is a good guide but they can be definitely be in positions not shown here.

I added a mat made from gripping liner under the turner because I felt like the eggs weren’t turning quite right and being turned real jerky. Since I had to take all the eggs out I decided to candle and I have 8 definitely developing, we even seen a few moving eye spots. I put them all back in because it’s only day 3. I’ll candle again on day 10 and check for clears and air cells development.
