Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Ah you are lucky! That’s the only downside to my incubator...you’ve got to hold the OK button down for 5 seconds to get it to start :hit

Just going to keep my fingers crossed that it doesn’t come to that!
Maybe you should set an alarm every so often to check during the night???

Well, it's good news/bad news here. I locked down my few polish eggs and heard a peep & some scratching. Then, I went to check on the 16 quail brabanconne chicks I received wednesday and two were dead under the brooder plate. I don't have any idea why, and every other one looks healthy. :hit
Quail babies like to die for no apparent reason. :( They also like to drown themselves and fall asleep away from the heat. I gave up on raising the quail chicks because every time I thought I had it figured out, they figured out a way to die. I sure hope you have a better time of it than I did.

@LynnaePB and @CluckNDoodle ok, thank you. As long as its chirping and getting air it should be good. I can wait. I just needed the reassurance, I would hate to miss the window of opportunity to help if I could. Do you think I should be worried about my other egg? Do eggs get really still and quiet before hatch maybe??? wishful thinking. Again I truly appreciate the reassurance :hugs

I never thought of that!

I may be able to get one of my family members to do that and check every so often. Due to the work hours and shifts I’m on, I can’t do it myself but I’m going to see what I organise in advance with that in mind :)

If it makes you feel better, I never saw quite a few of mine wiggle around at all.

Anyone know if I can use this on the membrane instead of coconut oil? The coconut oil seems to be drying up too quickly.

I get quite a few that don't wiggle as well so hopefully it's just fine! :fl

I saw it mentioned in one of the assist articles but want to make sure I have the right stuff.

I've never used antibiotic ointment during assists but have seen it mentioned in the assisting articles as well. It doesn't appear to have any pain reliever so I would think it could be worth a try? Hopefully someone with experience with it will be able to answer better though.
