Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Haha, ok if it was blinking then it was probably an eye. :lau

SO strange lol. I can’t see the eye now. The red circle is definitely a toe.

The little face has to be somewhere near there then! I'm going to share my very first assist and one of the hardest assists I've done to date. In order to save this little malposition I had to CAREFULLY peel away at the shell, leaving the inner and outer membrane intact until I was able to find his face. (that's not blood on the paper towel it's just a red leaf pattern)
I can't stress enough how difficult malpositions can be and they are always the hardest assist. If you're able to save it then that's fantastic but please try to remember that there likely was no chance this little one would have been able to get out on it's own without you even if it doesn't make it.

WOW. This is amazing. Thank you for sharing with me. I appreciate your words. This is pretty intense! I definitely bit off more than I can chew but I’m going to stick with the little guy and try not to get my hopes up.

Yeah they get into all sorts of odd positions! Here's an example of a position not really shown there. This little guy had a really wonky air cell from shipping and I think it didn't help him with getting into the right position. I got this picture right before re-moistening the membrane so it's a little too dry in the pic.

You can see his eye and foot/thigh, that little beak of his was pointing towards his tummy between his thighs. I managed to give him enough room to move that little thigh out of the way enough to get air. He needed help getting out when he was ready but he's grown up and doing fine now. :)

And I 100% agree with CluckNDoodle, malpositions are hard to assist and sometimes even if you do everything right they still don't make it. It's good to keep in mind that they wouldn't have had a chance without help and even if they don't make it at least you gave them a chance.

I’m home now and the chick is still in the same place. I still see veining on the membrane so I applied more coconut oil and put it back. Definitely can’t see the beak still but I did locate a foot.
Be careful with adding too much coconut oil because it can make it so the chick can't breathe.

I know everyone swears by coconut oil, but I had a bad experiences with it. I didn't apply a lot and it suffocated one of the chicks because it couldn't breathe through the membrane. I honestly would just locate its beak and cut open a hole.

Ok good plan. I’m about to go see what I can do once I get my daughter to sleep. My plan is to start picking away at the outer shell so that I can see what’s going on in there. And then make a hole if I find the beak. The veins on the membrane are looking a lot more absorbed now. Thank you so much
