Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I've been casually bidding on chicks over at https://www.rarebreedauctions.com
It's where Greenfire farms sells all their spare chicks at steep discounts off their website prices.

Just low balling and dreaming for the time being. I won't "get serious" until next weekend after my hatch is complete. Then I'll know if I have room or not.

Wasn't someone building a Pita Pinta flock? They have some well prices chicks selling there now.

I think @livhatcher had some in her incubator?

I would love to know your username lol. I just bought a flock of quail brabanconne last week, and have pita pinta eggs from them as well. I did email a note of concern to the store manager because there is a user who has purchased from one seller only, but seems to exist to bid up all chick auctions with no reserve to a minimum of 39.99 or 40.00 which seems fishy to me. Like, the person literally bids it up and then walks away from tons of auctions. I just think something is up. Am awaiting their response.

Hmm, that does sound a bit fishy...or it might just be @UThobbyfarmer staying within a budget. I resisted looking at the site the first time it was posted...now I'm in for it.

Unless @UThobbyfarmer has purchased 27 times from a seller called "chicks4u" I doubt it. I don't mean to cast aspersions on anyone, but I find it kind of hard to believe that there's a person intent on buying that many auctions (RBA is pretty serious about the legally binding contract nature of bids) and just *happens* to bid them up to $39.99. Last night I went down the rabbit hole of all current GFF auctions there and the same user came up, outbidding every person assuring that all GFF sales at least go to $40. My crazy, no-nonsense southern lady sense is getting pricked up.

Unless @UThobbyfarmer has purchased 27 times from a seller called "chicks4u" I doubt it. I'll keep watching and also be buying eggs. I have had quite a few polish breeders say that fertility is off and laying is slow through march-april. Keep me posted if you find some as well. TBH, I don't think these are the prettiest Cuckoo polish I've seen. If you encounter any Crele polish, please let me know!!

I did not want to get banned from the site so I didn't say the username in my email, but I just pointed out the facts. The user conduct clearly states that you are not allowed to get family members or friends to drive prices nor are you allowed to have multiple accounts. I don't know if any of what I'm saying or thinking is true, but every last GFF item I've bid on, and held for a few hours has been swooped in on by this person and driven only to $39.99.

My username is WasatchFarms. I've never made any purchases to date and I've been a member since '17. My bids usually stop somewhere in the "screaming deal" but not completely delusional category. Like they maybe went for that price once last year. If I won I'd be happy and pay up. But I'm not committed to being high bidder. There's just so many good chicks out there. Can't help myself.

Ha!! I've seen you! I'm @livhatcher because, well, that's my name and I guess I'm not very creative! I promise you that wason5 will get you to $39.99 no matter what deal you think you're about to get!! Right now, I would be insane enough to be open to almost any GFF screaming deal I can get just because they are a neighbor state and since it's a 6 hour drive, it's not a lot of stress on birds or eggs. BUT, if I were just going on birds I love, I'd be hoping to better my Marans, CCL, and rebuild my polish flock. Next time I bid, I think I'm just going to watch the auction until the absolute last minute and try to pounce. See if I can game my fellow $40 bidder.
