Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I would help at this point but through the air cell as long as you don't have any other active pips right now. If you open up from the air cell you can put oil on the membrane to see if there are any blood vessels or if it's ready to hatch.

It looks to me like he or she is having problems turning to zip and needs help. So evaluate by opening at the top of the air cell and see if you can assist from there.
The only problem is I have 6 other pips!

I need advice. This little one was pipped when I woke up at 5, made a little progress a couple hours ago, and now nothing. It looks like it was trying to zip, but got stuck. It looks a little crusty and sticky by its beak. I think if it’s not out by 10, in 4.5 hours I might have to help.
What do you all think?View attachment 2023483
As long as it can breathe I'd leave it alone until it's reached a full 24 hours post external pip. It really needs that extra time to absorb the yolk. If it's cheeping and seemingly healthy consider waiting.

It's Hatchday!!!

8 hatched yesterday. I must have set the temp a little high, I'll make it a tad lower next time.

One chick has splayed legs. We named him or her Charlie (I have the feeling it's a he). We tied his legs together with yarn but will switch the yarn every twenty-four hours.

I think there are fourteen now. Nine are in the brooder. I think all are Orpingtons except two still in the incubator. I think one of them stopped after pipping internally, oh well. Hopefully more will come soon!

A blurry picture of Charlie, the splayed legs chick.

This was the basket we moved the dryiest chicks to the brooder with this morning.

What the brooder looked like before the chicks got in and pooped in it.

I assisted, and with the help of my husband, maintained humidity in the incubator. It was stuck, which is so odd because the humidity hasn’t gone below 65. It definitely was ready to hatch, no blood or yolk, just stuck. I think it’ll be a little touch and go with it, I should have helped a while ago.

Two broodies have hatched a few in the last couple days. And there's aroundanother 10 sitting. I put some huge eggs under the red hen that I found next to the creek. I thought they might be wild turkey eggs. Boy was I surprised!
They were duck eggs!
Any body know what kind of ducks are yellow and black spotted? I haven't raised any ducks in 20 years or more.
