Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I have 3 eggs that I'm not sure if they are alive or not, they have not internally piped they are on day 21 should I start peeling back the shell where the air pocket is and try to see if they are alive or not?

You mentioned setting them Wednesday, so that would make tomorrow day 21 for you. I wouldn't touch any of the eggs until they're actually running late. I know it's hard! I hope they start hatching for you soon!

Yes but my humidity may have drowned them because it got up to 85 at one point
And I sadly think they are all dead

Oh no! I hope that's not the case! I think I would still wait until they're actually late and hope for the best because if you open up the air cell really early and they're still alive but not ready it will require a lot more effort to keep the membrane properly moistened. If you use coconut oil it does last longer but it will also harden if left without reapplying often enough. Overall, if it were me, as sad as it is that you may have lost some, I would wait until the end of tomorrow. Fingers crossed!! :fl :fl :fl

I also set mine on a Wednesday and mine are due tomorrow too.

I’ve had hatches where no chicks have chirped or moved the day before they are due. I’ve had totally silent chicks hatch out to be surprised when I walk in the room and see them in the incubator.

The humidity rising to 85% isn’t going to drown them all straight away. As long as you corrected the humidity they should have been fine. As long as it wasn’t like that for days then they should be ok.

My incubator lost power and all humidity at one point after a power surge but all of mine survived that ordeal and were still moving after.

Personally if I was you I’d leave them in until late Thursday/Friday Morning then consider taking them out then to either candle or float test them. Float testing usually shows if there is any movement but make sure there is no pips at all before doing this or they will drown.

I've got some due on the 26th as well (13 eggs). This is the last batch in February for me. I'm a little nervous, these are the eggs I stored for up to 2 weeks and around 75 degrees so too warm. I've got a first pip already, looks like the fresher eggs are more advanced (they started drawing down first). The one who pipped was less than a day old when I set them. :)

They all looked pretty good when I candled on the 18th day, except one I probably shouldn't have bothered incubating because it was a little too dirty. I'm not going to be terribly surprised if they don't all make it to hatch but I'm hoping most of them do! :fl

I hope they are just not showing any signs of life because they may be a little late. I agree with Fur-N-Fowl, 85% humidity probably won't hurt them as long as it wasn't that high for very long. I've had it go that high for a little while without any ill effect.

A lot of my eggs (most of the 13) aren't doing anything yet and mine are due to hatch close to yours (I set mine on Wednesday the 5th as well). I'm crossing my fingers for your little ones! :fl

So now I’ve seen my cockerel doing his job but I have 4 broodies. My eggs that are due 2/24 I had 9 developing on day 10 candle. So I’m going to try a staggered hatch. I’ve never done one before. I put 13 eggs in today and marked them. At lock down I’ll move the 9 others to my janoel 12 to hatch. I would let my broodies have eggs but they are insisting on cramming 3 to a milk crate, I foresee broken eggs or trampled chicks. If I can convince someone to move to the bigger tote nest box, I’ll give them eggs instead of using the janoel.
So update on the 1st part of my staggered hatch. On Saturday I moved the 9 eggs to the janoel 12 and came home from work yesterday to 2 fluffy chicks and my husband talked me into giving them to a broody instead of setting up the brooder. It took 2 hrs and giving here the other eggs in and she settled in and took the chicks. Tonight I got home and checked on her and she has 9 fluffy gray/ silver partridge silkie chicks under her. I will get pictures tomorrow. I can’t believe I hatched every egg that was fertile and all right on time within the same 24 hrs. I’ve never had this happen with the janoel. On Saturday I candled the 2nd batch that were on day 7 and I had 8 definitely developing.

That's so exciting! I can't wait to see pictures of your broody with her peeps!

Awww, what a great end result! Bet they're adorable, too!
