See, crazy... he ignored my texts too. Rude.

Well, I finally remembered to buy a flashlight for candling that is brighter than the built-in on the NurtureRight while I was actually IN the store (as opposed to at the barn, or worse, at work where I have the memory of a goldfish for my own self-preservation - gamblers are awful.), and finally got a really good look inside my day 11 eggs. Of the 8 that developed I have great movement on 7 (5 Cemani, 3 EE/??), and only one that looked like it quit at day 8ish. That batch is techincally due to hatch on Valentines day, but I always end up setting late in the day.

I also just set another dozen in the bator tonight - 7 pure Ayam Cemani, 2 potentially from my phoenix hen crossed with either RIR or black standard Cochin (I'd love to get her with my bantam cochin and/or my Ayam cemani, but they are both rough with her, and I feel guilty because she's my sweetest girl), 1 EE and 3 brown mystery eggs that come from various girls in my free-range flock.

Sadly, as of this morning my Silkie girls are still freeloading slackers...

No problem! Did you put the chicks that hatched a couple days ago into the brooder? There may have been some cool spots in the incubator delaying a few of the chicks, or vice versa if the others were early then there may have been warm spots.

Yes I did. Hmmm now the eggs have been moved around by the chicks hatching and stumbling around them

I usually change it in between staggered hatches. I have one that will hatch out on the 12th the next after that is the 16th which gives me a few days to clean out the incubator and the liner. I use a Hovabator styrafoam incubator so similar to a Little Giant. I have the plastic liner for water underneath and will take it out and spray it out then wipe it clean and put it back in. It gets a big cleaning and disinfecting at the end of hatching.

Thank you. I'll do it tomorrow if I don't have any fresh hatches or pips.

I think it's just egg now... I found it after I wrote that

Feeling a bit better than I was yesterday but still sounds like the sepsis hasn't cleared and the antibiotics for it are rough.

I don't know if I said it on here but along with pneumonia I have sepsis. I knocked my birthday out of the ballpark this year
oh no, you've been very sick my friend. Don't mess around with pneumonia and sepsis wow. Are you still in the hospital? Healing vibes your way. :hugs

Most of them go to new homes. I only keep a few out of every hatch.
Hmm Im sure the rules are different in every state but in general what are the rules? and how do you sell ie: word of mouth or ad? Im pretty sure here in MA if you sell there is like a chick minimum like 6 chicks or something but what if you want to just sell a few? Just curious

Mostly word of mouth now but I started asking friends what they wanted and I would do custom hatches for them. Occasionally I would post in facebook but they changed their rules on posting animals, MeWe is a newer platform that allows people to post animals for sale, and then there is always craigslist, a lot of people use craigslist but I actually never have. It all depends on where you are how you start getting the word out.

There aren't any rules about minimums when you're selling them yourself. If someone only wants one chick I do make sure they already have chicks that they're putting it in with though or if I only have 3 chicks left I might say, all three must go together.
