Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

How long does it usually take the little fluffs to dry in the bator?

That depends on how high the humidity is and which incubator you're using. My chicks usually dry pretty quickly in the Nurture Right and IncuView but even when I have humidity set lower I feel like they take an eternity to dry in the styrofoam bators. I've never clocked it, I'm too busy staring at them, but a few hours at least.

My humidity is in the mid 70s in the incuview and it’s takinh forever. Like the first one to hatch still isn’t dry. Hmmm do I need to make any changes? I’d love to get those 3 out before I go to bed.

Okay I have to say I really like my new candler. From the top on newer eggs day 5 to day 10 I can see the veining very well. As they get older up to day 14-18 if I candle through the bottom I can see the movement of the baby really well.

Here are the stats so far:
1/22 set 15 eggs 5 fertile 4 are going to make it to lock down. Strong movement and big healthy babies by the looks. Currently day 14 lock down starts on Sunday afternoon.

1/27 set 9 eggs total 3 fertile out of 9 I can see the veining very well and occasionally I can see the baby moving around. They seem to not like the light so tend to run from it which makes it harder. They start day 10 tonight at 9pm since I set them late and lock down on the 13th.

Biggest shock is the last set. I decided that I would only set 6 eggs on 1/31 and they are on day 6 currently I can see loads of veining and growth in the eggs. out of 6 eggs 4 are showing growth. Day 18 begins Monday the 17th so we should have the hatcher going started on the 12th through the 20th with new babies every few days.

This was the candler I used. Made by Lifebasis it comes with a 18650 battery so it's rechargeable but is also tapered so it makes a better seal on the egg so I get a clearer view of the eggs insides. It was only 10$ so fairly cheap but it works really well.
Having a good candler makes all the difference in the world. I too wised up and got a rechargable. Mines just a LED flashlight I use for candling.

I have day 14 eggs too! Can't wait to see what hatches for both of us next week.

70s is fine, the humidity spikes a bit when they first hatch and the moisture on their bodies and in the shell makes it go up. Sometimes they dry off enough to come out but still have little spiky tips to their fluff. Like these peeps, that's dry enough for me to feel comfortable taking them out and putting them in the warm brooder. You just don't want them to get chilled from being wet.

I agree. I use two styrobators and I think the biggest issue that makes it hard for them to dry is the humidity spikes up almost to 80-85% when they start hatching. If it's on the higher end it's not unheard of for it to make moisture on the inside of the glass. I would say at least a few hours to dry off. Maybe more.

On a side note, heading to Columbus sometime over the next several weeks to check out The Ohio State University with my youngest. Its in the top 4 for her choices for business school next fall.
Not that I'm biased or anything, but the Fisher school is excellent! I think you will really like it here - we have all the good things about a big city like restaurants and activities, but still have a lot of small-town community feel. Are you staying near campus? You should go to Pins Mechanical for the pinball and duckpin bowling, Dirty Franks has the best hot dogs in town, and Mikey's Late Night Slice is actually good when you are sober too! Ooooooh, and North Market, and Bridge Park in Dublin is fun, and...... lol!

I guess what I'm trying to say is Welcome to C-bus, get your scarlet and grey on, and start learning the words to Carmen Ohio!

Major mood swings here! Just notified that eggs are being shipped tomorrow instead of the 10th so super excited!! :yaThen notice the proximity to the weekend and worry about conditions in the An Post warehouse where they might sit for the weekend if not delivered on Friday......and then if they are and I get them in the incubator on Saturday I might have Leap Day babies, yay!! But I already joined the March hatch-a-long because they weren't supposed to be shipped until next week. Can you tell this is my first hatch LOL?!?!?
