Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I'll keep watching and also be buying eggs. I have had quite a few polish breeders say that fertility is off and laying is slow through march-april. Keep me posted if you find some as well. TBH, I don't think these are the prettiest Cuckoo polish I've seen. If you encounter any Crele polish, please let me know!!

I know someone within a couple hours of me that has Buff Laced Polish and I had a great hatch from her eggs last year so I'm waiting for her to let me know when her girls start laying again. 🥰
She may actually be close to you!

Of all the breeds available near me, I've had the hardest time with Polish. People either don't keep their flocks or they mix all of the Polish together. :idunno

I actually have a couple of wonderful local friends that have both Marans and CCLs, one even has a chance of Frosted Legbars in with her CCLs. I have one from my hatch last year, she's so cute!

Here are a few of the chicks that hatched so far for this month

I am desperately looking for nice quality buff laced polish for my daughter to breed and show...would you mind passing along this breeder's info, if she ships eggs/chicks?

I'll send you a message, she doesn't have any available at the moment though. Her girls aren't laying very much yet.

Ha!! I've seen you! I'm @livhatcher because, well, that's my name and I guess I'm not very creative! I promise you that wason5 will get you to $39.99 no matter what deal you think you're about to get!! Right now, I would be insane enough to be open to almost any GFF screaming deal I can get just because they are a neighbor state and since it's a 6 hour drive, it's not a lot of stress on birds or eggs. BUT, if I were just going on birds I love, I'd be hoping to better my Marans, CCL, and rebuild my polish flock. Next time I bid, I think I'm just going to watch the auction until the absolute last minute and try to pounce. See if I can game my fellow $40 bidder.
A lady with a plan! I like that. You'll have to report back if it works.

I, too, love Marans. Specifically BBS groups. Lighter eggs than the FBCM I've had but a prettier flock. Most recently, like starting today, I'm excited about the 55 Flowery breed. I have 2 eggs set to hatch Friday. If they look good and grow well that might be the breed for me. My favorite hens have been leghorn. And the autosexing trait intrigues me.

Is it the gal in Eatonton or Milledgeville? If so, I think I've talked to her before. My problem is I mostly start remembering user names only so @Mylied is basically just that name to me now :gig I had great success building my flock, and now the rebuild is harder. But, if I remember correctly, I bought most of my polish eggs between march and may, so it may be a waiting game. I do hate summer grow outs in the heat, though.

Good to hear about the Marans and CCls. I will have to look at the Frosted. I tend to shy away from lighter birds, just because I free range, and I feel they are moving targets. Snowball, Jr. (silkie) and Greta, my silver frisian gull, are the only ones who are mostly white right now.

I find that a lot of the issue in points south of Atlanta (where I grew up) is that people just want cheap birds. I have had people balk at $10 a polish chick which I think is inexpensive. But, a lot of people just go in tsc and impulse buy chicks. Education on diversity of breeds is important, and I have started a "Stay out of Feed Stores" mini campaign. Friends call me the "uppity chicken lady" but I really believe in breed preservation and that there is a huge difference in commercial hatchery and small farm birds. /END RANT :old

I LOVE the BBS group. Right now I only have one blue and one black hen...my blue boy got gotten by a fox and I sold the other boys. There's a lady in Ohio whose birds I love and hatch rate is awesome so I'll order again as soon as she's selling. I have one silver 55 Flowery hen from Greenfire that was in one of their "Ultra Rare Breed" egg boxes I bought last summer for a ridiculously low $15. Can't wait to see yours!

I bought my golden lace polish chick for $6 and I know she could've been worth $20+ she's gorgeous! She was confirmed a pullet and was at POL when I got her.
