Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Ok on to the next ordeal. I candled and saw no movement or change. I cracked the shell at the air pocket moistened the membrane with coconut oil. I don’t see any veins so I’m assuming I can break the membrane

it was in the correct position I think. It’s head was a little bit over the left wing though not under it. It looks like it did not internally pip, the membrane was intact. The yolk was not absorbed. I don’t see anything unusual. I will post pictures in the next post because they are graphic so if you don’t want to see scroll past the next post quickly. Any ideas what went wrong?

Me too. But after so many hatches, I no longer have the curiosity about it anymore. <sigh> I’ve mentally committed not to buy anymore eggs before this Sunday. Need a break!
Agreed. I've done enough eggtopsies. I'm now passed the point of them being helpful. These days anything pulled or that didn't make it goes right into the trashcan.

My husband informed me that the chickens were out free ranging over the weekend while I was away at work. It was -12 for most of the weekend lol. With a high wind but they would rather be out than in. It's 33 today and feels like a heat wave.

American ex-pat living in Ireland here. Spent 50+ years in the Chicago frozen tundra/equatorial heat cycle and still chuckle every time an Irishman apologizes about the weather. While this winter has been particularly wet the temperatures are no where near as frigid as an Illinois winter. As a matter of fact, the temps are pretty much 40-70 degrees year round so no real extremes to worry about for my chicks. Enjoy the picture I took earlier last week to taunt my gardener sister who still lives in the Chicago area.
