Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

it was in the correct position I think. It’s head was a little bit over the left wing though not under it. It looks like it did not internally pip, the membrane was intact. The yolk was not absorbed. I don’t see anything unusual. I will post pictures in the next post because they are graphic so if you don’t want to see scroll past the next post quickly. Any ideas what went wrong?
I won't even try to guess what went wrong. This link might help shine light on the problem. But you'll probably never know what actually happened. DIS (dead in shell) are heartbreaking.

I usually can tell from pictures but I don't have a clue on this one. Since your other baby is having some vitamin issues it's possible there was an issue with the breeding flock and it may not have been strong enough to hatch. I'm sorry! :hugs

Yup. It is heartbreaking but I’m a firm believer that when something like this happens there is a good reason. Maybe this chick would have suffered if it actually hatched.
On to happier things my other chickie babies. Here are some happy pictures. Three partridge silkies and one I think blue. Weird how all the partridges are different colors. Any ideas of what they will look like when grown? I’m going to post in the silkie thread but thought they would brighten the thread back to happy things

Aww what adorable babies! I really hope your little blue baby improves with the vitamins, wry neck is hard to see them go through.

Hopefully as long as she can eat and drink (or be helped with eating and drinking) she stands a chance. With my older babies who came down with wry neck I had some who needed tube feeding for a couple weeks but they pulled through. I've been lucky and I haven't lost one to wry neck yet.

This is one of these things like assisting hatches. I do it, think I’m crazy & sometimes it works but (for me) mostly, it doesn’t. The silkies & polish are domed skull breeds and sometimes this just happens. I’ve lost 3 and it stinks. Do make sure you feed non medicated chick starter to it bc I’ve read the medicated can impede vitamin absorption in silkies & polish. I’m sorry. It stinks, and ultimately, I’ve found wry neck is pretty hard to fix.
Thank you, I always feed non medicated

Me too. But after so many hatches, I no longer have the curiosity about it anymore. <sigh> I’ve mentally committed not to buy anymore eggs before this Sunday. Need a break!
This was only my second hatch so if it had to die I wanted to at least learn from in for future. I mean I guess in the end I really didn't learn anything except maybe how to do a eggtopsy
