Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I have issues keeping the humidity exactly right, but it's been good to me overall. I have 22 shipped eggs in it, all of which seem to be developing!

I also hatched all 5 of the fertile duck eggs I put in it last fall (1 was not fertilized). Others with more experience can tell you better than I can, but it's been great for me as a newbie, in spite of the humidity regulating challenge.

Checking in - I lost my curled toe AC chick this morning. I had it in a separate brooder with its sibling, and it just never thrived. I still have 4 healthy chicks out of 6 though, so I'm happy with that, and on a funny note, I somehow have created an Aracauna/X cross that is (as of now) completely indistinguishable from the BC Maran chicks I picked up at the store...

My next hatch is due the 25th, with 10 eggs looking good! I also set 24 Silkie testers and 10 AC eggs the evening of the 17th, so due 3.9/10! The smallest silkie egg is just 28 grams (normal Silkie egg is 50 grams) and has a bullseye that was clearly visible at a 24hr candle. If it makes it to hatch, how tiny adorable is that chick going to be?!

So sorry you lost your baby. Sometimes a small deformity on the outside can show that there is something further that isn't right on the inside. Glad your others are doing well though.

Up to 6 in the brooder all doing well and getting along well together even though they hatched on different days. The last one is still a little unsteady but wanted her in the brooder so the eggs in the incubator could hatch without me opening the bator lol. It amazes me how quick they grow. The first three hatched out on Sunday the last one today around 2 am.

Does any one use the Harris Farm Nature 360 incubator? If so does the temp and humidity easily controlled, thank you for your help. I am thinking of getting another incubator for my March hatching

Yes, I have two of them. They have been very reliable. I used them all year last year and I'm hatching out of them again now.

I'm sorry you lost one, sometimes they just fail to thrive. I hope your next hatch goes well!

What an exciting an exhausting early morning for me! The Salmon Faverolles started hatching last night and by 4am five sweet little peeps had hatched!

I could see last night that one of the chicks had pipped through a blood vessel and in my experience these chicks usually hatch like nothing happened but this one really seemed to be struggling so I started to assist really really slowly so I didn't end up with a situation where I acted too late again. There was so much dried blood pooled around the poor little chick that it had glued itself in! I've never seen anything quite like it before and this was a prime example as to how every hatch is a learning experience!

I've had that before with a duck. I needed to use a qtip and coconut oil to kind of wipe between the membrane and the chick to get them out. Other than that they did fine. I do add electrolytes to the water so they have a little extra boost from that. I've had a few air cells that were wonky more flat than half moon which made it easier for them to pip through vessels. Glad your baby is doing well they are all super cute.

Woke up to two baby chicks! My marans egg cracked and a little splash baby is born. The first pita pinta is here with a lot more pips!

I had to do the same, there's actually still a little piece of membrane stuck that I'm going to put Vaseline on once it dries off a bit more.
