Too hot?

Brilliant! Aart, but I'm hoping they're still selling sleds like that. I'd love to do that. I'll see what temp their pens get today.

I saw these earlier on FB I thought it was pretty brilliant too.
Do they ever sell sleds in GA? ;)
Maybe in the mountains.
Probably won't find one in July, I've had that thing for years.
I also use some other big flat pans....one is for putting under a washing machine, but it's really too big to handle easily...and some smaller ones(~16x16") I don't remember where I got them or what they are really for.
One of those mortar mixing pans might work good....or pan for under a water heater.

I use large clay saucers, the type you'd put under a plant pot, for water pans during hot weather. My logic is that the surface is rough even when wet, so the chickens don't slip getting in and out, and they're shallow, so no danger of drowning. Because they're so shallow they do need to be cleared out and refilled, so it's not a great option if you can't go out and refill them during the day.

Would be too heavy to tip over too......had that problem with smaller shallow pans.

I use plant saucers too! They do need to be refilled quite a bit, but in this weather the birds need plenty of water. I have 6 water sources for mine! I use a small wash tub now that I fill and freeze and they hang out around it under the big oak tree in the afternoon. It's been 100 to 105 degrees for over a week.

Thank you all! I love your ideas! I will definitely use them.
