Hey everyone,
Recently a friend of mine gave me 5 black astralorp hens they are about 10 months old.
He just up and decided he didn't want to be a chicken keeper anymore.
Now I have too many chickens for my coop and I had too put 5 of the excess chickens out of my main 8'x8' coop to a smaller coop.
The chickens I moved to the smaller coop are 4 ISA Brown's plus a 4.5 month old buff orpington/barred rock cockerel.
The ISA Brown's are of mixed ages.
2 are around 4 years old.
The other 2 ISA Brown's are just turning 2 years old and coming out of their first molt.
My wife told me to go ahead and butchure the all of them.
But the 2 ISA Brown's that are just turning 2 years old would they be worth any money if I tried to sell them?
Just recovering from their first molt there should be some decent egg production in them right?

Isa Browns are another name for red sex links and they don’t lay much past two years. They’re lifespan is also greatly shortened because of all the crooks breeding and genetics that go into them. They don’t normally live past around 4 years

That's an oft repeated "fact" based on ansectdotal evidence but of little scientific proof. My sex links are no more prone to reproductive issues or shorter lived than the other birds I raise, keep or sell.

I would post them, last year I bought laying hens - but for only $5 a piece. And they were just starting to lay.

So yes, I think you can sell them, I sure would try for 10, but be willing to let them go for 5. It would help with the feed bill.
