I only have 2 hens and usually I get 2 eggs a day but the other day I had gone out in the morning and got my 2 eggs as per usual but when I went out that night to lock them into the coop I saw 2 other eggs but they had no shell and they were layed on the grass instead of in the nesting box. Why was this??

Chickens can lay twice a day, but it's uncommon. It takes about 10-24 hours for an egg to form, turn around, and pop out. I don't know why they had just laid there in the grass, check the laying box for mites (or just clean it out).

Sometimes my chickens that laid twice a day had laid a soft shelled egg.
