Too Many Roosters, need advice on shooting them

Just let it be said that shooting them is NOT the most humane way to kill a chicken.

A simple hatchet and chopping block is easiest. The whole shooting thing is because you don't want to touch them?
That being the case, a 410 with light shot is a much better method than 22. It'll be safer as the pellets don't travel as far. Just note what's in your field of fire.

As for being in the northern Mitten, as a resident myself, I find you're description is a bit much, and over the top. There are folks who will butcher them for the meat. Craigs is what it is. There is also a meat buyer up here who picks up birds for cat food, I suppose.

BTW i have eaten hundreds of quail about6 to8 oz. hunt for grouse and eat theare small amount of meat if you kill it eat it you owe them that!!!

A .22 cal bullet can travel distances over 1 mile if unhindered. They can easily go through a hay bale. Although I wouldn't say they would be bouncing around in the woods, it's best to have a dirt mound behind your "target". You don't want other suggested methods and if you're dead set on shooting them, I'd recommend a shot gun which has a much less travel distance and a broader coverage area.

Do you have a problem giving them or selling them to some to use for a meal if that is what they want. I have had Cornish hens that are only about a pound a piece. I am just trying to understand your reason. I would not even attempt to shoot a chicken.

Rifle or pistol?

I've done it and it was quick! I had to hang the bird upside down, let him fight and he will settle down. Aim your barrel right up on his head. It's quick. But be forewarned, sometimes bullets can go flying everywhere else if it struck anything but dirt or a tree.

Best bet is to cut their throat. Or if you can find raptors flying in a nearby farmer's field with trees, dump the roos there. Let the raptor find a good easy meal. I know its cruel but it makes no difference if the roos got out of their pen, and scatter here and there. Predators are going to get them one way or the other.

I would not "hold" a chicken while I am shooting it LOL! Too dangerous for me LOL!

Tie them up by the legs on a branch or clothesline, then do the deed.

I think shooting them might be difficult to get in a good clean shot. If you're squeamish about blood and don't want to chop, could just wring their necks and bury them.

And just because someone wants to cull some animals, does not mean they should not have any animals at all.
