Too much brooding

Everyone had to be broody this past summer, sometimes even together

Makes me laugh... sure cuts down on egg production.

Yea, got no eggs from that bunch. There's actually 4 hens there. One more Polish in the back.
I didn't hatch any eggs, had to take a break this year. But now my hubby knows all 22 names, so maybe my break is over, LOL

looks like you need 1 of my hens i have a hen that drags others out of the nest if they are taking too long i wached her get in a nest the other day while 1 was in the nest next to her get out and the other chicken was still on the nest well she grabbed her by the neck and drug her out of the nest once they are off my roosters usually dont let them back on the nest after a certan time im having the oposite problem most ppl have cuz i want a broody hen lol

I love broody hens! There was a time when they drove me crazy, but I have it all worked out now. Three broody jails, and I have finally trained my husband to NOT liberate the hens in broody jail. He is such a softie...

I don't let them out until they stop being broody. It usually takes a few days. They have food, water, and a roost in broody jail. While it's true that they hate being there, they are fine.

When my softie husband lets them out, they run back to the nest and settle back in. By the time I figure out what's going on, they are back in broody mode. This really stretches out the breaking process!

I lock them out too, or move them to the dog house, LOL
