Too much Bumping Lately...

I would like to remind people regarding posting about sick, dead or dying birds:

This is not a community of board certified veterinarians.... we may have some insight on what might be wrong, but they are just suggestions. If you hav constant problems with your flock a veterinarian is the first person you should seek out. Also if you are having lots of dying birds, please send them in for a necropsy.

Also Niftys thoughts also apply:

Situation 2: A member posts in the "Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures" section with a very descriptive title and as much information as they have on hand. During the next hour they find more insights from searching the forum and have some info about their situation. Their thread has no replies and so they post a reply to their thread with the additional insights and information to get feedback. They also may realize that peeps aren't answering their questions because either:

1) The question has been asked 1,000 times and there are already a plethora of threads that can be found on the subject with searching.
2) The original poster didn't provide enough detail or information
3) Peeps just don't have an answer

I pass by alot of posts because I don't know the answer or I just don't want to rehash "ameraucana" again......

oh ok, this is probably going to not go over great

. But this seems like especially to the OP like they are being little tattle tale, like the kid in the school yard that narks on other kids for doing silly not so serious stuff. I mean like oh oh I see you and I'm telling.

Most of the time when I see a bump its because everyone is passing it by, by going to the recent posts, and they are feeling a bit neglected, sometimes people can be clicky.

I totally understand spamming, or doing it on purpose to be annoying, or to do it over and over to draw attention to yourself.

But for most, is it that big of a deal? They are just trying to get something answered, and maybe don't know how to research, and be as good as everyone else

or they just want to ask to get human interaction.

I mean seriously! I guess this may inspire random people being security guards on bumpers, as most Admins that I have seen know the difference and will leave it.

Susan, you have over 2 pages of topics that you have started, and only 4 have zero responses. That's actually pretty good!

Patnjess, the problem with bumping is that it knocks other posts off the Recent Posts page, and they disappear unless one goes looking for them. It has already been stated that there is some latitude for bumping in the Emergencies section. And the OP is correct, it has really been on the rise lately.

This might be a good time to post another link to the rules.... you know, the ones we ALL agreed to when we joined?

OK, I have a question: is reviving an old old thread that you didn't even start, bumping?
And is reviving and old old thread that you did start considered bumping?

In general we don't really mind if old threads are "revived" as long as there is a good reason and additional information or valid questions. Just be careful about why your reviving an old thread.

Bad example:
A 2007 thread where someone posts "My hen just laid her first egg... YAY!". Replying 3 years later with "Wow, congrats!!" isn't really helpful.

Good example:
A 2007 thread with pages of information about scaly leg mites and how to treat them. Replying with additional tips and trick / information or with questions about specific posts and techniques is considered helpful.
