Many times, all that's needed is proper supportive care, and you clearly gave that to him.

I wish I had a picture of how I first found him - laying on his back with his head all bloody. I thought he was dead. I'm thrilled with his progress.

Pics in first post here are pretty gnarly with his head and comb all covered in blood.
