Coccidiosis is definitely a possibility. Some kinds just seem to hit some breeds harder. I have been very interested lately in why certain breeds are more susceptible to certain diseases. I'd be interested in hearing how you fare with this.
Mississippichicks, could they be having a reaction to being dewormed? No everybody deworms their birds regularly like you do, maybe they are more sensitive to the dewormer. In dogs, collies and collie mixes are known to be more sensitive to some types of medication, maybe it is the same with chickens. Just a thought.

With crested birds they have an open skull and if not protected befor the skull closes up they can get pecked and end up dying..I forgot what it is called but coming across your post and reading that no 9ne has mentioned that I would let you know..I know this is an old post and have hope you have found the answer you were searching for.
