I bought these from our local feed store and they got them from Ideal Poultry. They told me they were top hats and thats all they knew. So, I have been looking and trying to figure out what I have. They are very good looking and have distinctive features.

First, this roo does not have a beard and has a long tail feather.

This roo has a beard and not really the long tail feather. The pullets with him..one is pure white and the other is the buff and white color. They both have a little top hat.

Both of the roos have yellow legs and the hens have dark kind of green legs.

Any idea what type of "top hats" I have here?

Looks to me like you got mutts. Those are definitely not pure crested breeds. Do you see their combs? On a good crested/pure, you would NOT see combs like that. At all. The one buff laced little girl looks like a cross b/w a buff laced polish and a white leghorn. The boy almost looks like a Yokohama/leghorn cross(the tail being curved like that) and a Yokohama's coloring. But the "poofier" hens you have are who knows what.

Sorry if this is not the news you want to hear.

That's exactly what I was expecting to hear. I have been looking at the top hats and don't find anything that looks like these guys. I'm fine with having the mutts around I just won't be breeding them.

I'd say they are all at least half Polish, probably all half Buff Laced Polish and maybe the other half is White Leghorn?

The roo with the deep buff coloring in his wings, that is common for buff laced polish roosters.

I would email IDEAL and ask them what Top Hats these are -
IDEAL gurantees Purebred and will make it right with you

They sent me sebrights instead of What I ordered and were excellant in making the correction

Most of the time when people say "top hat" in reference to chickens, it's any chicken that has a poof of feathers (crests) on their heads. It's not necessarily a particular breed.

I picked up some "top hats" myself, two look like the ones you have only bantam sized (I'm thinking a Houdan cross) and the others of mine are most likely Polish (BLR, BLS, Silver, and Splash).
