Why can't you trim the feathers to open up the area around the vent and take a picture?
A broken bone would not be the cause of the bleeding.

I would try to part the fea thers or show another person how while you take a picture of the vent in focus and in good light.

Normally on the backside it's just fluff so I can't imagine it hurting anything but your hen may vary.

I use nose hair scissors because thy have rounded tips and are very sharp.
Just be careful and make sure you see where you are cutting.
Cut the feathers about 1/4" from the skin.

Yes, cut the feather shaft down close to skin.
