Illia ! Not trying to "beat a dead horse" here, But The Crele, Partridge, and Wheaton Varieties of Penedesenca are Egg Layers.
The Black Penedesenca is a seperate Large Dual purpose variety. It is not just a difference of color.
I bring this up not for the sake of arguement but so that the the people unfamiliar with breed not get the wrong impression. Bill

If the black is supposed to be a dual purpose while the others are egg layers, why is it not a separate breed? Colors are just colors - The breed is what makes the standard, use, and origin different.

No such a thing as Endangered chickens... they are just not popular or productive enough to be kept on large numbers... I mean Silkies are NOT productive at all yet people love them, Araucana are Not productive but are the Original blue egger so even at low numbers they will not go extinct............ the Production White Leghorns(the ones that never touch the ground) and CornishX are born by the Billions and they will NEVER go extinct, unless we go extinct....

The chicks are culled down to be used as breeders, that's why the number drops.

I love Araucanas, we have them here in Nicaragua, most are Mixed, but they will never hope to match a production white leghorn...

Well basing by those standards then EVERYTHING is a poor layer but Leghorns, Sex-Links, and production bred Australorps.
