Top Ten Medical Misinformations

Thought of another... I keep reading posts where people say to swab the throat to check for gapeworms. Think about it... gapeworms live in the trachea, not the esophagus.

Some species of capillary worms *do* live in the crop.

"There are several species of Capillaria that occur in poultry. Capillaria annulata andCapillaria contorta occur in the crop and esophagus. These may cause thickening and inflammation of the mucosa, and occasionally severe losses are sustained in turkeys and game birds."

x2 Swabbing the trachea for gapeworm is useless as I've found out.
