Topic closed .. and thanks for the opinions!

Those later photos confirm my suspicions your bird is indeed a roo, can you refresh my memory on how old again? I'm thinking 3 months? look how red that comb is already, seems to have the startings of hackles on it's neck and if you look at the last pic which shows his tail very well you can also see the stringy tail feathers developing, I've got some serious hat eating to do if this bird does turn into a pullet

and in response to wava1vaughn your bird looks like a pullet! how old?

Hi from Ga. I'm far from an expert . I usually wait to see who's on top. But in this case I am comparing to my rooster.

Thank you all so much for posting ~ the rainy weather today wasn't good for photo taking, but I am going to take photos tomorrow. I've since stared at some site photos of hackles & saddles and pointy hen tails. I stared at the 2 longish tail feathers and imagined them turning around into a proud circle, also I was told they could moult out? I stared at the orange-y feathers around the neck and ran my fingers through them, buff barred is tricky on the eyes, they are long (as feathers are?) and they have rounded edges. I separated the feathers on the back (wow there are alot of new feathers down in there!) after reading about "shiny" new feathers, but the new nubs didn't look any shinier than the existing feathers.
Gosh this is so tough because of how hand-tame this bird is, so super duper friendly. I am on edge daily either waiting for a crow or an egg (not near egg laying age, yes the bird is just now 3 months young) I wish our laws allowed a rooster because I obviously would just keep either way! We luv this cuckoo, ugh the suspense of not knowing for sure is ugh.

Edit: congrats on that ribbon up there!
