Topic of the Week - Chicken Myths, True or False?

Pics
My hens never seem particularly angry when they're wet ("madder than a wet hen")
Now that I have chickens this one kills me. My chickens hang out in the rain and get soaked. They don't seem to care one bit let alone get mad. LOL

I'm pretty sure all my chicken crops are on their right... am I missing something here?
You aren't missing anything, the majority are on the right, but every now and then you might find one with a crop on the left.

Thought maybe I was missing some joke. LOL If you stand and look at them it's on the left...but that would be their right.

Nope, not missing a joke. :) Crop and esophagus are usually on the birds right side, but every now and then they are on the left. The vet I spoke with said that it's not uncommon, but I've only ever seen it in one.

And here I thought my yellow ones were just being racist.
I always thought mine did it more by age group. But I've noticed that when roosting my 2 Wheatens (who are always together) now have a 3rd roosting buddy. A blond mixed breed girl. I guess now that they are all over the 1 year old mark they group by color. LOL

The same old timer told me that on the first day of spring an egg will stand on its pointy side :lau We tried that and to no avail.

There is a myth that you can only stand/balance an egg on it's end ( the round end) only on the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes. But you can do that anytime you want - without tricks, sand, salt....just some patience. The irregularities in the shell let you find a balance. Here's mine from a past photo contest :)
