Studies I have seen say it's not true. Peafowl people I know have lost and almost lost peas thinking it was true. IMO, it's just more misinformation.   Same with Gale Darerow's new book. Heck, even a couple of my veterinary text books say it's effective in treating capillary worms.

Vets here are reporting that ivermectin worming products used in the equine industry are loosing their effectiveness and as a result ( thanks to heavy worm burdens ) colic cases have increased noticeably this spring.
I found this paper from 2011, findings were encouraging on ivermectins afficiency against Caecal
Worms at 98%.
I'd like to see studies involving more birds, but I guess that's not economically viable.

Should have been RavynFallen - apologies! And  by the way - I don't know much about the climate in Middle Tennessee, but I think Ireland would certainly qualify as having a fairly wet climate - though rainfall on the east coast where I am is much lower than on the western side of the country in fact.

I agree the vet can get pricey, that's why I am grateful for Kathy on BYC, I learned most of the worming info from her posts...

While I haven't been to Ireland (yet!), I believe we do have a similar climate, yes... very humid, but also our ground keeps and holds water way too well...

Sorry i was responding to someone who asked what wormer i was using. I asked if i should worm before their crops are.full or if i should wait until they are full. And she asked what wormer i was using.

Ah, okay, those were posts 53 and 57. I've read that some people give wormers on an empty crop, but I have not seen anything in books that says to do it.

I've been using garlic powder in my chicken for a while. I believe it helps with the worms issue
