So long as you're not trying to start some ruckus, then I'm fine with stating your opinion. Some may free-range their cats, personally, I think it's wrong, but that's a discussion for another thread. But, this was definately NOT someone's pet. It's a pain in the arse cat that's been ripping up peoples' garbage and killing the local birds (apparantly domestic birds as well as the wild birds). I wasn't planning on blowing its head off either way. If I had wanted to do that, I'd have grabbed the .22 250 with hollow points. I wanted a good clean, painless kill for the cat, because, yes, I DO believe that if you're planning on killing something, you need to do it RIGHT and as stress-free for the animal as possible. As for the dogs, I'd have shot them as well if they had done the same thing to me. First, would of course be to go to the owners, then if they refused/couldn't control their dogs, then my animals' lives are more important to me than a set of dogs whos' owners cannot control them. Call me a mean arse, but, if it were my dog destroying livestock/pets, I'd be pretty upset, but I would understand that it was MY fault for letting the dog loose. We DID have a problem with her for a little while with escaping. Just so happens that our dog isn't a thrill killer and we got her under control before she did get shot. If your animals are running loose, you need to expect that at some point in time, they may get killed, whether it be by another predator, car accident (or non-accident), shotgun, poison, whatever. If you don't want to see your animal killed, restrain it.
