Awesome!!! Beautiful beautiful boy! Congrats--what a find! I'm amazed his owner let you buy him. And lucky for you, according to the rules of duck math , you can always argue that you are reducing the overall number of ducks. In this case, I think the equation looks like this: 1 + 1 + 16 + 2 = 16 - 5 = 35

I agree with the above--everyone needs at least one more duck. Hmm. Where am I going to get my next duck from?

I actually didnt buy him!! He was given to me!!! I have only ever seen crested runners for sale here in Australia once in the last three years. I missed out on those as they were at auction- and tried to find out who bought them in the hope of getting some offspring -but to no avail. Funny thing is- this guy is from one of two drakes that were bought at the sale that day and then passed on to my friend. They are not crested themselves- but must have been carrying the gene. LUCKY ME!!

I have a lovely friend who I visit often who also breeds Runners. We have swapped ducks on a number of occassions, and I was at her place yesterday to return two borrowed ones...and give her two drakes. I have tried to help her out with understanding genetics and given her advise on what is a rarer pattern or colour and what in her flock she should be keeping to breed on with . She has some gorgeous little blue pieds there we were looking at yesterday. I look foward to my next visit and seeing them all grown up .

Yeah- I know that to breed two birds that both carry the gene means that the ducklings inheritting a gene from both parents will not hatch- but thats why I will only ever one crested in my yard.
