I have an ex battery girl who is around 2 years for the last few days she has been moving very slowly, she still eats and drinks, and if I take treats out she still comes with the others, I have just noticed that she seems to have poop stuck to her vent, possibly blocking it, I have also noticed that her crop is empty, her comb is very dark and shriveled, I have her in a warm bath at the moment, please can anyone help me or give me advice

Ok she has had a bath, I have cleaned all the poop away from her vent, I left her in the warm bath for 30 mins, I have blow dried her as much as possible, I have now put her In a box in a cool room, I have given her scrambled eggand some water with electrolytes in, she has gobbled up all the egg, what else should I be doing

Just keep her somewhere quiet with some clean mixed corn a little water and semi darkness to help her rest. Inside if you have a cool room and a large box with towels or rags in the bottom. then leave her and check in every now and then quietly. If the worst happens she will be peaceful, if she survives she will be the better for the rest and attention. I don't think you can do much more unless you have a vet that specialises in chickens or even just deals with them. Then I wiuld make a quick phonecall to see what they can suggest, without inccuring a bill. Let us know. I feel for you as this has happenend to me and my chicken survived.

She has ttaken a turn for the worst, she is now struggling to walk, someone please give me some advice
Have you checked for being egg bound? Unfortunately it could also be egg peritonitis or ovarian cancer. Have you been able to get any water into her, possible dehydration. The poop stuck to her vent,is it possible she may have vent gleet, how does her vent area look any swelling no vent prolapse?

I'm pretty sure she has an egg stuck, there is an egg like bulge right behind her vent, she has had a hot bath for 30 mins and is eating and drinking, but she now can't move very well, I will post pics

It won't let me upload pics, I have done the bath and massage, I will have to get calcium tablets and try that, I had to cull one a few weeks ago because I couldn't get her to pass the egg, what is going on with my girls?????

Could be a result of her being an ex battery hen,you have no idea what she went through before you were able to save her.

If you were in the US, I would say that the statistics are prety sobering for hens bred for laying lot of eggs dying of reproductive problems like internal laying or ovarian cancer. Since these are battery hens, I suspect you should probably expect something similar there, though honestly I know very little about the breeding and egg industry in the UK. I even wonder if you were "allowed" to rescue them because some egg producing problem had been observed by the original owner. It is of course very kind of you to do this sort of rescuing -- but perhaps you should be prepared for outcomes like this. And please don't take any of this as some sort of slur. On the contrary -- bully for you! I also have hatchery birds. And I probably would have seen this in my own flock if predators hadn't taken so many, when they were free range
