ToTW = fat dog?

It has been my experience that the TOTW cat food has the same "recommended feeding amounts" as Purina One cat food. Must be some of that standardized stuff. The truth is that they don't need anywhere near as much of the good food as they do of the crap food, no matter what the bag says.

I think the feeding direction on the TOTW bag are way off. I feed my 70# dobe about 2 cups/day and she looks great. With a high quality food like that, you don't have to feed as much......but my dogs would try to convince you otherwise:)

My Katie would too!!! I admit that on days when she has been playing hard with the neighbors Foxhound, I give her a bit more to eat. Days Spent around the house or at doctor appointments I give her 2 cups a day. She is a 9 month old puppy and I don't want to prevent her from having "enough" food. But I am watching her weight, she is about at the weight I want her. My last girl got up to nearly 60lbs. That's not happening this time!!

My shelties, who weigh in the 20-25 pound range, get a cup of TOTW and are just right (tho they do get cookies during the day, too), but they are very active. Especially now that its cool, they run and run and run and run. I change from one flavor to the next each time I get a bag (I get the large bag each time, I think its 40#).

the feeding suggestions are based on the numbers for KENNELED dogs...
the dogs used as test subjects tend to be higher energy kenneld dogs that need more food to keep them warm i the winter and energy needs ect.
for the average pet dog those numbers need to be reduced, sometimes by Alot...
the better the food the less they need to eat. and a senior is even more so as their energy levels drop.

i woudl try halving the suggesting amount as a starting point and then slowly keep reducing or increasing untill shes at her ideal weight. with seniors it can take some playing with as some days they seem to need a little more and some days a little less.

My dogs have been enjoying ToTW for a few months now- my senior border collie has quite a tricky gut and is a garbage hunter, so it's a relief to find a food that is actually appealing to her and easy on her stomach.
My BC mutt, Jack, gobbles it down unlike any of the food we've tried in the past and his coat and ears smell a lot better than when he was on grainy food.

As a side note- when I first started buying ToTW, both dogs had nasty fish butt. My husband insisted it was the salmon food and requested that I discontinue it immediately, so I switched to the bison brand- but still, fish butt persisted! I was about to do away with it for good and try another brand when, lo and behold, my sister shared the fact that all of the cat food in the barn had been raided- several bags of dry and a few boxes of wet packets had been chewed and destroyed! I had no idea she had been stock piling cat food in the barn, but apparently my dogs had found it and were enjoying a "buffet" every time they were in the barn unattended. D'oh! I'm so glad I didn't take the dogs off ToTW, but I'm also glad they are now fish-butt free (and the cat food is on lock down).

Sounds like something my old dog sweetie would do.

Now I have to convince the 4 month old puppies that chicken food is not candy
