Toulouse Geese Thread

No kidding! Trina runs from the serama and lets them take her food. They don't get to come out anymore lol
Thanks! I think he's so cool looking! I was hoping for something white, but I totally fell in love with him. Let's hope Trina does soon too!
Sounds like she is softening up towards him, but she has to be cool and not let him see her drool. lol

SO pretty!!! What lucky geese!

I talked to the people from the rescue but wondered what you guys think -
If they haven't taken to each other in a week or so will they ever? The rescue thinks it should only take a few days to know if they will pair up or not, but I don't even really know what to look for this being my first time with geese.
I wasn't really expecting a super bond until mating season which I thought would be more like in spring, but with our desert temps the rescue says mating season can start as early as october and they even have a few already laying. Trina only hatched last spring so she may not even lay this season.

If they aren't hanging out and sitting right close etc. should I let the rescue pair her up with someone else?

Give them a chance, My gander didn't really fall in love till mating and that was in Jan of this year and they had been together from Aug till Jan. It takes time and as long as they aren't fighting I'd say just give them time. My goose was hatched in April of 12 and they mated for the first time in Jan of 13.

That's what I was hoping you would say!
They aren't fighting, and I think Pom is a little interested, he tries to follow her to the general area of the yard she is in, but he just isn't brave enough to venture out into the open.
Trina is still pretty scared of him and will run away if he gets too close, but she has no problem walking right next to him to get somewhere she wants to be.
It helps that >I< really love Pom. He's so sweet! He isn't my best friend, but he's not at all difficult to catch, and he doesn't try to bite anymore, doesn't even hiss. he sat next tome for a while yesterday eating and sun bathing no problem. I'd really like to wait it out until spring.

I agree with Miss Lydia... wait it out! As long as they aren't fighting, there's no need for them to be best friends immediately! Trina has spent her whole life being the only goose, and probably doesn't know what the heck he is! Mating season will change everything!

Are the people at the rescue pressuring you? They ought to know it takes a while for geese to bond and the fact that he is such a sweet heart and she is actually walking past him well to me you couldn't ask for much more this early. I agree with AD being an only goose for such a time well she just isn't sure what to make of one that doesn't look like a chicken, My gander didn't know how to act like a goose since he was raised with Ducks so it took him a while too.

I definitely want to wait it out, I just wanted to see what you guys think. I didn't want to force him to stay here if there wasn't much of a chance, but it sounds like mating season could really turn things around.

I think he was a bit of a favorite at the rescue. He hadn't ever bonded with another goose they think partly because he was raised alone just like Trina, an partly because all the other picked on him so he was afraid to be around them. He had recently started hanging around a Canada Goose but they weren't super close and he didn't call for the Canada when they separated them, but it sounds like the Canada may be a little sad in the mornings. However the Canada is a tough bird and doesn't take crap from the other geese. I think they may just have other boys they would rather get rid of than Pom.

I can understand sounds like he has a nice personality. I think it will turn out great for Trina and Pom they are in the get to know you stage right now. and geese have their own way of doing it. Keep us updated as the days go by.
