Toulouse Geese Thread

My Toulouse goose laid her first egg today inside the duck house instead of her own. haven't been able to get it yet she is still getting over it. lol
She probably did it on purpose so that your Muscovys can sit it for her...she just doesn't want to give up the night life!!!

LOL!! O my. I guess I'd better fill the pool with a small amount of water, where they can touch bottom. Then as they get older, start to increase the amount of water. I'm glad you mentioned that!

I'm thinking about getting some Toulouse geese with my Khaki Campbell ducklings , but I was wondering if the geese would protect them from hawks , maybe at least flap their wings at them and honk?
This is my first time with waterfowl.

LOL!!! They are being mailed from Holderread on May 4th. He ships them when they're 1 day old. I'm just getting everything ready for them. They'll be in the house I guess for about 2 months. Meanwhile, I'll be building their coop and pond (for when they're ready). While they're in the house, they'll have enough water to dunk their beaks and eyes. I hear they grow very fast, so depending on how big they are, by 4-6 weeks, I can put them outside, Under my supervision, in a small horse feeding tub or clean never used kitty box, filled a bit with water. This is going to be so cute, and I'll be taking millions of pictures. I live in Fl. and today we had 80 degrees, May will be perfect weather and much warmer for their transit from Oregon to Fl. I order 2 pr. of the Giant Dewlap Toulouse. I'm excited!

Hi, Lizzy, I have no experience with geese and if they'll protect your ducks by honking. I do know that hawks are very patient and will wait for their opportunity. I have raised Guinea Fowl and they go crazy and make a racket when there is an intruder on the grounds, whether it be human, snake, or hawks. Hawks don't discriminate, ducks, geese, guineas, it's all food. I here some noise and I let the Great Dane out!!!!! LOL. Hope someone else can answer your question.

I can only speak to my experience with my Toulouse geese. I have one gander and two females. Right now is breeding season so my Gander is only interested in protecting his ladies. Even then, on a good day, all he seems to want to do with the ducks is grab them and do untold evil to their bodies. I know other people on BYC have geese and ducks that get together find. Mine do not. When I am out with my geese and a hawk is around my gander stands upright, cocks his head watching the hawk then runs and positions himself between where the hawk is flying and his ladies. I have not seen any interest on his part in providing this same willing to be sacrificed attitude to my ducks.
